Eastbourne sailor Nicolia Boniface continues to impress on the highest stage with victory at the Dart 18 World Championships in Italy.

Following summer victories in the Dart 18 National Championship and Formula 16 European Championship, Nicola sailing with Tom Phipps from Falmouth, headed back to Italy for the Dart 18 World Championships high in confidence.

The event which attracted nearly a hundred competitors from eight different countries was held in the coastal resort of Punta ala, Tuscany.

Nikki and Tom sailed consistently well throughout the week long competition and achieved top five positions and won three races.

Their performances were good enough to give them a healthy lead overall by the end of the week and they were crowned World Champions.

Following this, back in the UK, Nikki returned to the pairing that had been so successful the previous year at Youth level, teaming up again with Rupert White from Brightlingsea.

Their first major event back together was the Spitfire Nationals, being held at Brightlingsea SC, Rupert’s home club.

The young team were soon back to their winning ways, easily managing the breezy conditions and dominating the fleet in most races, counting five first and one second places in their score.

This meant that Nikki and Rupert were crowned Spitfire National Champions for the second year running.

Following this event the RYA selected Niki and Rupert for the new catamaran Olympic Development Squad with a view to representing Team GBR at Rio in 2016.
