Young Eastbourne triathlete Sarah-Michelle Clear continues to impress on the South East stage, finishing first female and in a provisional fourth place overall at Dorney Lake on Sunday.
The eight-year-old travelled to the famous London 2012 Olympic venue at the weekend to compete in the third event of the South East Junior Triathlon Series and completed the course faster than any other girl in her age group.
In a field of boys and girls, she crossed the line in the fourth fastest time overall, although could move up to third if one of the other competitors is found guilty of infringement. The final placings will be confirmed later this week.
On a blazing hot day in Windsor, Sarah-Michelle completed the 100m lake swim, 3,000m cycle and 1,000m run in a total time of 19 minutes and 18 seconds - a time made all the more impressive when you consider the fact those distances are some of the furthest she’s ever completed in a competition and does so against many children one or two years older.
Sarah-Michelle, who attends St Andrews Prep in Meads, only started compettive triathlon seven weeks ago but has already tasted success, winning the first event of the South East Junior Series in Southampton last month.
She was the second-placed female and fifth overall in a field of 38 in the second event, held in Croydon, and will complete the series in Andover on July, 21.
Next, the young athlete will head to Rye for a Junior Triathlon on July, 14.
