Eastbourne Rovers took a team to the Sussex Indoor Athletics Championships at the Sutton Indoor Arena, Carshalton.
The team was a mixture of experienced athletes and debutants.
The day was a success with everyone setting or equalling Personal Bests and several winning medals.
In the U15 Women 60m Sprint, debutants Millie O’Hara, 8.64 seconds, pipped Mary Adenji, 8.98, with the latter also jumping 4m16 in the Long Jump. In the U17 Men High Jump Bradley Eisnor won gold with a PB of 1.75m.
In the 60m Sprint, Laurie Hughes set a PB of 7.75 at Senior Men level, George Marsh, Gold medal winner in 2012 at U17, won Gold again at U20 equalling his PB of 7.20.
Matt Harrison, Gold medal winner in 2011 at U15 and absent in 2012, won Gold at U17 in a PB of 7.33 – and this was in spite of picking up an injury after 40 metres, in his first and only short sprint of the season.
And Marcus Hinchon, competing in his first ever championships only arrived at the venue 15 minutes before his U15 race and still picked up Silver in a time of 8.07.
These Championships are a welcome break from the grind of Winter Training, allowing the athletes to assess their current form, and give pointers on fitness and technique in preparation for the forthcoming outdoor season.
