New signing Kim Nilsson is set to make his Eastbourne ‘Lifestyle’ Eagles debut as they welcome a depleted Poole Pirates side to Arlington Stadium on Friday night (7:45pm).
Certainly he, along with the rest of his new team mates, will be required to hit the ground running as the Dorset outfit strive to put behind them a recent dearth in form and endeavour to re-ignite their Elite League Play Off aspirations.
Title runners up to the Swindon Robins in 2012, the Pirates now harbour ambitions to pick themselves up from an uncharacteristically slow start to the season, force their way into the top four ahead of the September cut off and regain the title they last held in 2011 having beaten Eastbourne in the Final.
In order to do so, they need to start winning, and winning big. Inevitably they will set their sights on fortress Arlington, the Eagles now the league’s only proud possessors of an unbeaten home record, as the place to start doing just that.
With Nilsson slotting into the Eagles reserve berth, the Sussex side will field their regular one to seven, save for the Rider Replacement facility utilised for injured Czech Republican favourite, Lukas Dryml.
For the Pirates, the weekend Grand Prix qualifiers has ravaged their usual line up, meaning just three of their usual line up will travel to Sussex, inlcuding current World Grand Prix Champion Chris Holder. However, they fill the gaps with in-form trio Ben Barker, Richie Worrall and Mikkel B. Jensen.
Trevor Geer said, “The Pirates line-up might have an unusual ring to it, but they have chosen their guests well.” we shall certainly have to be at our best and work hard to beat them and maintain our unbeaten home record”.
“We beat them 53-42 the last time they were here but they turned it around, beating us by 14-points in the return at Wimborne Road. On Friday we have the opportunity to reclaim the South Coast bragging rights, as things stand we are above the Pirates in the Elite League table and that is where we are determined to stay” he concluded.
