Eastbourne Ladies salvaged considerable pride after losing narrowly to Worthing in their first home friendly of the season.

After losing 85-5 last year, Eastbourne ladies were keen to show Worthing a much improved side, and within five minutes of the match they had opened the scoring with a try.

Eastbourne’s strong defence meant that Worthing struggled to breakthrough, although the visitors’ experienced pack eventually carved out a first try.

By the end of the third quarter, Eastbourne led 20-19 thanks to tries from Lois Loseby, Aimee Day, Emma Crowther and Sonya Da Silva. But Worthing then scored a couple of breakaway tries to run out 29-20 winners.

Eastbourne’s next match is at home to Lewes on December 2 (2.15pm).
