It was a weekend of mixed emotions for Eastbourne Ladies as they earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Richmond before being knocked out of the National Cup to Henley. Eastbourne dominated large parts of their contest against Richmond, with an attacking force of Sophie Hoskins, Steph Black, Phoebe Windsor Clive and Sally Clarke posing a constant threat to the visitors.
However, they couldn’t convert their possession into goals and were caught out by a more clinical Richmond outfit, who sneaked a goal before half time.
An encouraging half-time talk from coach Jane Parkinson ensured Eastbourne came out equally as strong in the second half and their efforts paid off as Petch Lenham hit the top of the net in style from an aerial ball to secure the deserved 1-1 draw.
Sunday wasn’t quite as successful for the Ladies though as six unanswered goals saw Henley progress to the next round of the cup.
In what was a fantastic test of fitness and focus, Eastbourne refused to be too downbeat and head into their league meet with Trojans next week encouraged by their display.
