Eastbourne’s Junior Netball Club has been awarded funding after an initiative was launched to encourage young girls to take up netball.
Sport England and Active Sussex are backing the funding of netball in Eastbourne in the hope of encouraging 11-16-year-old girls to take an interest in the sport.
Active Sussex’s Chief Executive, Sadie Mason, said: “The Sportivate programme will give thousands more young people in Sussex an opportunity to get involved in sport and try something new. We want to provide a quality sporting experience for each and every participant, to inspire them to continue to play sport throughout their lifetime.”
The initiative hopes to build interest in Eastbourne and ultimately make the club sustainable and capable of retaining a large pool of players.
If the initiative proves successful the netball club will enter a team into the Eastbourne Junior Netball League.
The Sportivate Eastbourne Junior Netball Club will be running eight weeks of sessions starting on September 25. The sessions will take place at the Hampden Park Sports Centre.
The netball sessions will cost £3.50, or receive a 10 percent discount if you pay eight sessions upfront.
The club will be handing out free t-shirts to all those who come to the first eight sessions.
