The Vanessa Knight Memorial open meet at Bognor Regis provided an ideal platform for Eastbourne Swimming Club’s younger members to show what they could do and they certainly made the most of it.
It was the first time competing at an open meet for James Knight, Rachel Richards and Millie Vieweg, and all three seemed to enjoy the day and made their mark.
The Gala saw James shave more than five seconds from his 100 IM time and 2.5 seconds from his 50m breaststroke, and he didn’t stop there.
He went on to give an outstanding performance in the 50m backstroke where he came in second to take silver in his grade with nearly a five second personal best.
Rachel also showed she had what it takes and took over two seconds from her 50m backstroke time while team mate Millie took nearly a second from her 100 IM time.
Some of the older swimmers were also on top form, not least 15-year-old Jack Lindsay who competed in five events and set new personal bests in all of them.
PBs and medals were picked up by many of the club’s swimmers during the course of the day and a great time was had by all.
Other swimmers competing were Reece Bishop, Connor Day, Jasmine Hasib, Shaumya and Thivya Kularajan, Hannah Lindsay, Lauren Manson, Hannah O’Sullivan, Kerris Senior and Frances Smoker.
