Eastbourne Hockey Club demonstrated their positive team spirit by bouncing back from a 9-0 hammering to draw with Oxford University.
The Saffrons outfit were no doubt still hurting after their embarrassing defeat to Chichester a fortnight ago but managed to put that behind them to draw 1-1 with one of the best sides in the division.
Manager David Adelston said, “We definitely pulled ourselves together after the previous week’s disaster.
“Chris Bristow did a great job getting their mind in the right place and get them believing in themselves.”
Eastbourne took the lead after just seven minutes as Steve Perry’s shot deflected off the Oxford goalkeeper. However, they were undone by a strike just 30 seconds before the final whistle to ensure the spoils were shared.
Adelston said, “It was a very tough game and we have mixed emotions because we were so close to winning it.
“Chris Borsoi had a fantastic game in goal and our forwards and midfielders did a lot of defensive work to frustrate Oxford. “
This weekend, Eastbourne travel to West Hampstead, who have yet to pick up a point this season.
Elsewhere, the men’s second team narrowly lost 2-1 to South Saxons Men’s 1s and will face Hailsham Men’s 1s next.
The Ladies 1s picked up a pleasing 4-1 win over Teddington 2s and will travel to London Wayfarers this weekend.
