British number two Heather Watson has promised to jump in the sea in celebration if she wins the AEGON International tennis tournament next month.
Watson, who recently turned 21, suffered a second-round exit in last year’s competition but has admitted if she can lift the trophy at Devonshire Park this time round, a dip in the sea is on the cards.
When asked if she would celebrate winning by going for a swim in the icy waters, Watson laughed and replied, “Absolutely!”
The world number 48, who was knocked out in the first round of the French Open this week in what was her first taste of action after recovering from glandular fever, also admitted she couldn’t wait to return to the Sunshine Coast for this year’s competition.
She said, “I love going to Eastbourne every year - it’s so much fun, especially because it’s in the UK in front of a home crowd and home support. I think that’s the main reason.”
The 2013 AEGON International gets underway on June, 15 and will continue throughout the week, with finals to be held on June, 22.
