Hailsham Harriers maintained the pressure on league-leaders Lewes with a fine display of muddy running at Snape Wood in Wadhurst.

Energy-sapping mud greeted the runners for the fourth round event as 150 athletes battled to stay upright over the five-mile course.

Gary Judges lead home 21 brave Harriers, he was third overall and first veteran. The team also scored crucial points thanks to great runs from Rob Chrystie, Sam Alvarez, Olivia Webb, Matt Dowie, Alan Thornton, Sue Fry and Andy Ruffell.

In the ladies Sam Alvarez finish second overall to Sally Norris of Lewes.

The Harriers are next in action on February 10 at Ashdown Forest.

Times and positions: 3rd Gary Judges 32m31s, 14th Rob Chrystie 35m57s, 28th Sam Alvarez 38m05s, 29th Olivia Webb 38m25s.
