Hailsham swim stars power to 30 medals

Swimmers from Hailsham took part in the first completion of the New Year, in Littlehampton.

The Christmas break did not affect the select squad that took part, everyone swam well improving on their race times, and the team collectively came away with 36 medals.

Congratulations to siblings Maesie and Oliver Thornton on their fantastic swims which saw them gain three new county level qualification times.

Maesie (11) finished in top spot in the 50m Backstroke event, swimming a two second personal best time of 38.98. She also secured silver medals in 50m Butterfly, 200m Individual Medley, 50m and 200m Freestyle.

Oliver (10) sprinted to gold in the 50m Butterfly, in an improved race time of 41.90, and collected silver medals in 50m Backstroke, 50m and 200m Freestyle, as well as a bronze in 200m Individual Medley.

Brilliant swims throughout the day by Ben Shorthouse (9) gained him gold medals in 50m Breaststroke, 50m Backstroke and 200m Individual Medley, in which he recorded an impressive ten second improved race time.

Ben also sprinted into silver place finishes in the 50m Freestyle and Butterfly events.

Superb swims by Maddie Drury (15) saw her attain golds in the 200m Freestyle and Individual Medley events, as well as silver in the 50m Freestyle sprint.

Lachlan Gower (12) was awarded a gold medal in the 200m Freestyle, finishing in a new personal best time of 2.32.52. He continued his good form and collected a silver in the 200m Individual Medley, and bronze in 50m Butterfly and Backstroke.

Cole Cornford (17) contributed to Hailsham’s gold rush and collected a trio of medals. Cole triumphed in the 200m Individual Medley among others.
