‘Game of two halves’ sees Eastbourne edge win over Adur

Playing in the first round of the London and Southern Counties Shield competition, Eastbourne were drawn against the Adur IBC.

Playing at home, Tony Redshaw, Peter Reynolds, Brian Henty and Derek Dyer all played steadily to lead 13-4 after ten ends before going on to win 23-15.

The other home team of Malcolm Livesey, David Booth, Ray Novis and Peter Morgan also ran out worthy winners 34-13. Dave Bain, John White, Mick Martin and Ian Coombes did well to only trail 9-11 at Adur after ten ends but lost 22-19.

Also away, James Henty, Adrian Wainwright, Bill Fuller and Stephen Bain were drawn to play David Hubbard’s team. David, who has been the National Singles Champion and was in top form, led his team to a fine win 28-8. The final score was Eastbourne 84 Adur 78.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Eastbourne travel to Bournemouth for the next round of the Denny Cup. Playing in the National Singles, Peter Morgan won 21-13 against R Adams of Grattons. Roger Cable and Bill Fuller travelled to Grattons in the second round of the over 60’s National Pairs against D Beard & T Rogers. They led 16-7 at ten ends and went on to win 29-16.
