After a difficult end to 2012, Eastbourne Hockey Club will be hoping to start the new year with a bang when they return to competitive action this weekend.
Eastbourne face a long journey to MIlton Keynes on Saturday following a four-week festive break, before which they suffered a 6-2 defeat to Sevenoaks in what was their fifth defeat from six domestic encounters.
Manager David Adelston said, “It’s frustrating because we know we are capable of producing the results required but the fact is our squad isn’t big enough and when a couple of players are missing, it hurts us quite a lot.
“Milton Keynes will be a very tough game, especially away as it’s a very long journey we’ll be making that morning.
“If we’re on our game, hopefully we can perform and get a good result.”
Eastbourne returned from their Christmas rest refreshed enough to record an emphatic 6-1 friendly victory over Tunbridge Wells last weekend and, although they reside in a lower league, Adelston and his men were delighted with the result.
He added, “It was a really encouraging match. The guys played really well with high spirits and it was the kind of performance that gets their confidence back.”
Eastbourne currently lie 10th in the Southern Premier Division - one place below rivals Milton Keynes.
