St Leonards Academy hosted the annual East Sussex secondary schools table tennis Championships this week with 50 players competing to win a place at the national finals.
There was a display of excellent Table tennis and a really sporting atmosphere.
Players from Eastbourne and district schools did well and picked up four titles.
The U13 Boys was a strong competition, with Joshua Bennett of Willingdon Community School winning the event, beating William Goodstone of Cavendish school.
The U16 boys saw Ryan Gregory of Ratton school reach the semi final, losing to eventual winner Jack Bennett of Willingdon Community school. Jack beat Bradley Heselden of St Leonards Academy 3-0 in the final.
The third winner from the Eastbourne area came in the U16 girls where Yuki Watt of St Bede’s proved too strong for the other girls in the group and beat Emma Sheen of Brighton 3-0.
The final success of the day from local players came from the U19 Boys event, where Bryan Kwan of St Bedes beat Paul Bergin of Brighton. All the winners now have the opportunity to travel to Doncaster in April for the National Schools finals, to represent East Sussex. The East Sussex primary school table tennis competition will take place on February 22 after school, at St Leonards Academy.
