Nearly 40 young swimmers entered Eastbourne Swimming Club’s second Elvers Gala of the year and almost everyone finished the afternoon with at least one personal best under their belt.
Quick off the blocks, Kian Day and Finlay Naylor battled it out in the 50m fly and came to the closest of finishes with Kian touching in first by a fingertip. Alicia Smith and Anissa MacCaskill also fought hard for gold in the girls 9 years 25m backstroke but at the end, Alicia managed to take first.
Four event-best times were broken during the afternoon’s events, with Meeru Putland, Sophia Titterton-Manos, Kian Day and Finlay Naylor taking the credit for one each, while personal bests were also in abundance with Cerys Peters smashing her 50m breast stroke time by 13 seconds, Alex Silverman shaving nine seconds from his 50m breaststroke time and Ella Maxwell and Molly Thompson taking eight seconds from their 50m backstroke times.
Top boy and girl awards went to Najm Karkach and Sophia Tiitterton-Manos, who both took first place in all four of the events they entered.
