Five players from Eastbourne schools represented East Sussex in this weekend’s National Schools Table tennis finals in Doncaster.
All reached the final stages of this event which featured more than 350 players.
Joelle Bennett, from Willingdon Primary School, competed in the under 11 girls and performed well to win three matches and reach the last 16.
Bryan Kwan, from Bede’s school, took silver medal, in the under-19 boys event.
Next up was Jack Bennett from Willingdon Community School reaching his seeded position of the quarter finals in the under-16s, losing narrowly to the finalist Gabriel Achampong from London.
Yuki Watt took it one step further in the under-16 girls reaching the semi final to take the bronze medal.
Finally Josh Bennett, from Willingdon Community School was able to take the bronze medal as well in the under 14 boys. Josh performed well all day with a narrow loss to the number-two seed Hugo Pang of Dorset in the semi final in the fifth game.
Josh and Joelle then played for the South East region the following day in the under-15 event and under-11 event.Josh remained unbeaten in his four matches. This success for Josh, followed on from victory at the National under-14 qualifiers.
Josh took the title as he beat Jack Merton in the final and qualified for the Nationals to be held in Tipton In june.
