Just champion! That’s the Eastbourne Edge who have been crowned champions of the 2012 South East Skater Hockey League.

The town team have enjoyed their most successful season to date.

On the last day of the season Eastbourne Edge under-18s beat Hustlers 6-2 and Hastings 4-1 to build to secure top spot.

The victories built on the Edge’s sixth place in the European Cup in August.

The under-18s were not the only age group to taste success.

Eastbourne Edge’s under-12s and under-15s secured their respective league titles.

A younger Eastbourne Edge under-15 team secured the runners’-up spot and the senior team placed third.

A number of players won individual league awards.

At under-12 level, Eastbourne Edge player Archie Warren was the top points scorer with 41 goals and five assists, the highest for any player in all the age groups.

The Edge’s Hollie Irving had the best under-12 netminder stats with a save score of 86.78%.

At under-15 level, the Edges’s Zach Ockmore was the top point scorer with 29 goals and four assists.

Cameron Brown had the best netminder stats at both under-15 and under-18 level. His save score of 95.85% at under-15s was the highest across all the age levels.

The teams now turn their attention to the national championships and the chance for the top two teams from the South East to play the champions and runners-up from skate hockey leagues from the other regions of the country.

Eastbourne Edge will be looking to improve on last year’s third place position for the under-12s and fourth for the under-18s.

The under-12 nationals takes place in Hastings this weekend, the under-18s event will be hosted in Rotherham on November 3-4, with the under-15s in Bisley a week later.
