While fireworks were lighting up the skies outside, sparks were flying in the cage as Atlantis hosted a Hallowe’en special fight night on Friday.
Hundreds of people packed into the nightclub to watch the 12 bouts and to support many local fighters from Eastbourne’s First Generation Fitness gym, who staged the whole event.
With boxing, MMA and kickboxing on display, and the finest fighters from along the south coast heading along - even from as far afield as Bournemouth - the expectation was high for a night of top-class entertainment and action.
And the hype didn’t disappoint. The local fighters, fuelled by a loud and electric atmosphere inside Atlantis, won nine of the 12 fights on offer.
The loudest cheer of the evening came when James Hopkins’ arm was raised in victory in what was his first ever competitive contest.
The estate agent and Eastbourne Borough board member has really shaped up and adjusted his lifestyle since joining the gym and all the hard work paid off with his success over fellow Eastbourne fighter Ross Ingram.
One of four female fighters participating on the night, Sophie Cook, also recorded an impressive victory as her opponent retired in the first round with a knee injury.
The win means Sophie took home the title of Southern Area Novice Champion, with a big red belt to show for her glory.
With smiles firmly on faces and medals dangling from their necks, fighters went home a happy bunch, enjoying their success for one night only before getting back to the grind.
