Both Willingdon teams crashed out of the Eastbourne Table Tennis League’s Brewer Cup in second-round clashes.
With ony two players available from their strong squad including the Bennetts, Willingdon A were knocked out by Laughton with a 5-1 scoreline.
Sheila King beat Bob Lowe in the last set played 11/3,3/11,8/11,13/11,9/11 but the match had already been decided after Lewis Mayhew and Faldie Adams had each won both sets played.
Willingdon B went down by a similar 5-1 scoreline to Bishopstone A. It was just a delay of execution when Tony Parris beat Tony Anderson in the fifth set. Jim Skinner then completed Bishopstone’s progress to the semi-finals by beating Alan Hooker after a slow start in the first game 6/11,11/2,11/6,11/7.
Hailsham A eased past Eastbourne Borough D with a thumping 9-0 scoreline.
Although Hailsham had won the match with only two games dropped, they played and won the six remaining sets with Vic Harding getting the tightest score line in the 9th set 12/10,11/9,12/10 against Scott Bills.;
Eastbourne Borough A saw off the B team 5-0. Brian Busbridge took Rose Rainton to five games in the first set thanks to two deuce games 6/11,14/12,14/12,6/11,9/11.
But Rob Warner and Rose soon reached the 0/5 match score without the need of a third player.
