Eastbourne’s director of Rugby Mal Chumbley has left the club after two years at the helm.

The decision was made at the recent AGM and followed a 2013-14 campaign that failed to see Eastbourne gain promotion from the Sussex League.

Former Blue and Golds scrum half Russ Aitkenhead will take over and he will be joined by Steve Clark, Rob Light and former skipper Matt Pysden who returns from East Grinstead.

Other management duties will be carried out director and vice chairman Steve Snell.

Chairman Fraser Brooks said, “We would like to thanks Mal for all his efforts and we wish him well for the future.

“We are sorry to see Mal leave us but we think the new arrangments will work very well.

“Our goals for the next season have been agreed. Three sides taking the field each week and promotion for the first XV. Training has started already and the mood is optimistic.”
