Former Wimbledon champion, Goran Ivanisevic, will grace the courts of Devonshire Park in an exhibition event to open the AEGON International in June.

The Croatian crowd-favourite will be one of a number of legends of the game taking part in singles and mixed doubles matches on the opening Sunday and Monday of the joint ATP and WTA tournament.

Big-serving left-hander Ivanisevic said, “It’s a real honour to be asked to play in Eastbourne and I’m really looking forward to it.

“I never played there during my career but Devonshire Park has a great history and tradition and so to play on those famous grass courts will be a real thrill, as well as a lot of fun.”

Ivanisevic and the other legends will also take part in a range of activities on site at Devonshire Park during Sunday and Monday aimed at attracting children and families on site over the opening weekend of the AEGON International.

Tournament Director, Gavin Fletcher added, “This is a real coup for tennis fans in the South East.

“As well as having many of the world’s top players taking part in the AEGON International, fans and local residents will now also be able to enjoy watching some of the biggest names from years gone by. Having watched Goran over the years I know he will bring his own unique brand of entertainment and skill.”

The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), the national governing body for British tennis, which is organising the exhibition, will announce more big name players as the event draws nearer.

Chief Executive of Eastbourne Borough Council, Robert Cottrill said, “I’m sure many of the town’s residents and their friends will take the opportunity to see him, and the other legends in action.”

Daily ticket prices for the exhibition event start at £23, which also includes access to the AEGON International matches.

Those customers who have already purchased ground access passes for Sunday, June 12 will have an opportunity to ‘top-up’ their ticket to secure access to the centre court for this extravaganza.

The LTA are also offering free access to children (16 and under) if they are accompanied by a full paying adult.
