Chris carves up a Sunday special

Chris Haynes (16) performed to well below his handicap to return a net 56 (72) and win the Main Club Sunday Medal at the Eastbourne Park GC.

Senior members Wayne Funnell (15) and Frew Hillhouse (22) returned net 61s with Wayne declared the runner up. Tye Townsend (5) also shot a 72 gross but with his handicap, he had no chance.

Nearest the pins: 2nd Tye Townsend, 6th Jack Prosser and the 9th by Mark Inman.

The Seniors produced another high turnout of 43 and the weather was delightful. Geoff Summerfield (20) returned to form and recorded a net 57 to win, Mike Morland (24) was a close second with a net 58, Chris Collingham (20) was one behind.

Martin Healy once again claimed the Longest drive on the 8th while nearest the pins were claimed by 2nd: Volka Benzmann, 6th: Geoff Summerfield and the 9th: Wayne Funnell.

Cindy Wootton won the Ladies Medal with a fine net 63. Marie Gould was second with a net 65. Di Morris was nearest the pin on the 2nd, Sarah Quinn the 6th and Jill Green the 9th.

A field of 42 played in the seniors club Championship and Presidents Salver. Firm favourite Martin Healy (7) won the Championship with the best Gross of 73, Wayne Funnell (13) was second with a gross 75. Acting Captain, Chris Mottershead (16) shot a very creditable 76. He achieved a net 60 along with Geoff Summerfield (19) and Lars Bostrom (22), with Geoff declared the winner of the Presidents Salver, the best net, and Lars the runner up.

Geoff Fordham was closest on the 2nd and 11th, Martin Healy the 6th and 15th and Johnny Johnson the 9th and 18th. Geoff Rowlands won the Longest Drive on the 7th including hitting a tree on the way.
