The warm weather last weekend saw Eastbourne Rowing Club Junior Senior crew get one race closer to securing the championship for 2013 after gaining first and second place ahead of rivals Dover during two days of racing at Worthing.

Saturday saw the Under-14 crew of Lauren Baker, Connor Roberts, Harriet Coyne and Luke Sprintall start the day with a second-place finish in the first race of the day.

This was followed by sculler Matt Whitehead taking second place in the Junior Scull event and third place in the senior scull event.

The novice men’s crew of Jon Osborne, Jamie Waterhouse, Tom Stone and Amar Duratovic did qualify but unfortunately missed out on a placing.

Sunday’s racing saw the ladies novice crew, comprising of Lauren Baker, Emilia Fahy, Koral Prodger and Rosie Pugh, and the mens novice crew of Tom Stone, Amar Duratovic, Mike Summerfield and Jamie Waterhouse qualify for their respective finals.

Sadly, though, the novice men just missed out on second place by less than half a boat length.

The ladies Junior pair of Rosie Pugh and Lucy Wright achieved a great fourth place in their race.

Club captain Bob Noakes commented, “Following the races as an Umpire at the two regattas gave me an opportunity to witness the huge progress our established and development crews have made this season.”
