Young Brit Oliver Golding has progressed through his first round qualifying test at the AEGON International.
Golding, the British number-13 and world-ranked 482, was emphatically beaten in the opening set, with German Daniel Brands, world ranked 105, storming to a 6-0 lead
The second set was a lot more balanced but 18-year-old Golding broke Brands’ serve just once to level the overall score.
After rain temporarily stopped play in the third and deciding set, the pair returned to the court level.
It looked like Brands was the most likely to seal the victory, facing two break points in the final stages but failing to capitalise.
Instead, Oliver Golding broke serve to take a 6-5 advantage and serve for the match. He did so with ease and will now face a fellow Brit in either Josh Goodall or Edward Corrie in the next round.
