Tennis stars of the future took to the courts at Devonshire Park during the AEGON International tournament as Great Britain and the USA battled it out for the Maureen Connolly Challenge Trophy and the LTA Junior Challenge Trophy.
The youngsters contested the competitions on Thursday, June 20 and Friday, June 21, with the girls fighting for the Maureen Connolly Trophy and the boys vying for the LTA Junior Challenge Trophy.
In the women’s competition, the American team of Louisa Chirico, Taylor Townsend, Alicia Black and Jamie Loeb, ran out the winners by eight rubbers to four against the British team of Katy Dunne, Katie Boulter, Harriet Dart, Gabriella Taylor and Isabelle Wallace.
However, the hometown team triumphed in the LTA Junior Challenge Trophy, with Britain’s boys Luke Bambridge, Cameron Norrie, Jonny O’Mara and Evan Hoyt defeating the American team of Stefan Kozlov, Noah Rubin, Spencer Papa and Luca Corinteli by seven rubbers to three.
Staged at Devonshire Park during the annual Aegon International, the Maureen Connolly Trophy and LTA Junior Challenge Trophy events see some of Great Britain and the USA’s top juniors fighting it out for honours in singles and doubles competition.
The events provide a fantastic opportunity for tennis fans to watch the stars of tomorrow competing on the grass courts at Eastbourne before they head to Wimbledon for the third junior Grand Slam of the season.
