Jason Barnett of Devonshire Park Lawn Tennis Club defeated Doug Keen of St Leonard’s 6-3 6-4 in the battle of Sussex at the South of England Men’s 35 and over singles final.

The long-awaited contest between the best veterans in Sussex team tennis lived up to all expectations.

Jason’s manager, Gary Lewis, said, “The two highly-skilled tennis players demonstrated their huge repertoire of shots in an epic final that lived up to all expectations and a bit more.

“Doug is a great player that dispatched GB team player big server James Smith and last year’s finalist Mark Beim on his way to the final.”

Jason Barnett is sponsored by A1 Pharmaceuticals PLC (www.a1plc.co.uk).

The 37-year-old former pro from Aberdeen, Scotland leapt to the World no.1 ranking after winning the South of England 35 and over senior’s singles title on the famous lawns of the Devonshire Park LTC, for which he competes.

Jason is the first tennis player in the history of the ITF (International Tennis Federation) Seniors to achieve no.1 World 35 and over ranking in both singles and doubles in the same year.

On Wednesday, he travelled to the Hungary Grade One tournament, the 10th ITF Senior Tournament of 2012, where either gaining more points than or defeating the World no. 2 Daniel Dolbea from Germany will extend Jason Barnett’s lead at the top of the Men’s 35 and over singles rankings.
