Eastbourne’s England prop Joe Marler had to cut his RBS Six Nations campaign short due to the birth of his first child.
The 23-year-old and his partner celebrated the birth of Jasper Louis Marler on March 15 but could not make it a double celebration as Ireland managed to claim their first Six Nations crown since 2009.
This year was the third time Marler had been named in England’s Six Nations squad and has now established himself as a key member in Stuart Lancaster’s side.
Marler has experience captaining England at under-18s, which helped him join Harlequins Academy in 2008.
He then made his debut for England in 2012, earning his first three caps against South Africa.
With 19 caps to his name, Marler will look to continue his good form with Harlequins, which can hopefully earn him a place at next year’s Rugby World Cup.
