Anne claims title in style after high-quality final

The finals weekend at the Eastbourne Indoor Bowls Club saw a new Ladies Champion crowned.

Anne Summers and her opponent Pauline Davis produced bowls of outstanding quality. Anne led 12-7 after 10 ends, at this point Pauline started the long fight back and took the lead 17-16 after 20 ends.

Pauline led 20-18 and laid game when Anne played a superb shot to take the jack out of the head to take the shot and then drew the two winning shots to take the game 21-20.

Derek Dyer became the Men’s Singles Champion for the fourth time when he defeated Dave Buttle in a game that was well-contested. However, Derek’s vast experience showed as he dominated the game, leading 16-5 after 10 ends he then went on to win 21-11.

In the Men’s Novice Singles final, Jamie White and Kevin Hylands battled for this title and it was Jamie’s experience that carried him to a good win 21-11.

In the Ladies Pairs Final Pat White and Anne Summers played Pauline Davies and Sheila Simmons for the title and in a close fought game where Pauline a and Sheila led 13-10 after 10 ends, going on to win 26-23. Ray Novis and Ian Coombes, who have played well all season, took the Men’s Pairs title when they defeated Father and Son James and Brian Henty. They led 15-4 after 10 ends and ran out winners 23-13.

The Men’s Triples Final was won by Peter Reynolds, Terry Howard and Derek Dyer, who narrowly beat Lloyd Oliver, David Booth and Francois Celeda by one shot.

After 10 ends Derek led 13-12 and by scoring 1,2 on the last two ends took the game 20-19.
