Promising tennis youngster Alex Targett lost both his games at the Winter Regional Tour Finals in Bolton last weekend.

Targett, who trains under the guidance of Matt Edwards at the Eastbourne Indoor Tennis Centre, represented the south east in the boys 12 and under category but failed to progress to the next phase of the competition.

The 11-year-old faced the third-seeded player in his first match. He took the first set 6-3 but lost to the more experienced player after the match went into a championship tie-break.

Targett needed to win his second match if he was to progress. Again he started well and won the first set 6-3. The match went into a tie-break and Targett did well to save a double match point at 7-9. However, after not being able to capitalise on a few match points himself, Targett agonisingly lost 15-13 and was eliminated.

The tournament concludes what has been a successful winter season for the young tennis ace.
