Eastbourne Eagles are opening their doors to fans old and new ahead of the 2013 Elite League season.

The club holds its official practice at the Arlington Stadium tomorrow (Saturday) starting at 12.45pm.

Co-promoter Mike Bellerby said, “We believe this event is a good opportunity to showcase speedway to people who may not have seen the sport before.

“Of course, it is not racing as such but newcomers will see the sights and sounds of 500cc speedway bikes in action.

“That’s why we are promoting the official practice in a slightly different way this year.

“People have seen our promotional material and some have rung up to say, ‘is it really free’. The answer is a definite yes.” Arrangements will be made for people new to speedway to learn more about the sport.

The practice session is also an opportunity for regular fans to see the Eagles on track for the first time this year.

After the practice session has been completed, the pits will be open for fans to mingle with the riders and be able to get autographs and photographs.

A “fans’ track walk” is also planned at the completion of the practice.

The track shop will be open on Saturday along with the Shelley’s catering facilities.

Eastbourne’s first league match of the 2013 season is on Saturday, March 23, against Belle Vue at Arlington (7.30pm).
