Mixed fortunes in FA Cup draw

Eastbourne Town, Eastbourne United AFC and Hailsham Town received mixed fortunes in Wednesday morning's FA Cup draw.

United and Hailsham were both given home ties against fellow Sussex County League Division One sides Redhill and Lingfield respectively in the extra preliminary round on Saturday August 15.

But Town, of Ryman Division One South, face a testing trip to Sussex League title hopefuls Whitehawk or last season's Kent Premier runners-up Hythe Town in the preliminary round a fortnight later.

Hailsham will entertain Sussex Division Two team Southwick or Kent Premier outfit Herne Bay if they get past Lingfield, while United will go to Chatham, switched from Ryman Division One North to South, if they overcome Redhill.

All three local clubs will be on home soil if they survive as long as the first qualifying round on Saturday September 12.

Town will travel to Enfield in the FA Trophy preliminary round on Saturday October 3 for the right to visit Ware, who were ninth in Ryman Division One North last term, in first round qualifying a fortnight later.

In the FA Vase, Hailsham are away to Sussex Division One newboys Peacehaven & Telscombe in first round qualifying on Saturday September 5 and Saltdean United, of Sussex Division Three, await the winners in second round qualifying.

United are exempt until the first round proper on Saturday October 3 as a result of winning Division One last season and their first task will be a visit from Feltham, Holmesdale or Greenwich Borough.

The FA Youth Cup draw has pitted Eastbourne Borough away to St Francis Rangers and Town at home to Redhill in the preliminary round during the week commencing Monday September 7.

Victories there would earn both teams home ties in first round qualifying two weeks later, with Town up against Bromley and Borough facing Horley Town. Town would be away and Borough at home in second round qualifying if both make it.
