Hailsham had the perfect response to last week’s disappointing East Sussex division three loss to Firle with a gutsy win away at Uckfield.
Hailsham chose to field first with Will Slemmings (1-24) and Jinson Francis (3-14) taking the new ball and they both soon had Uckfield wickets under their belts.
Wickets fell at regular intervals but Hailsham struggled to contain the run rate, with runs coming at four an over, despite some very good bowling.
James McDonald was the star of this innings with (3-50) and two great catches, as yet again his spin bowling caused the opposition batsman big problems.
Aaron Norwood (2-36)also picked up two big wickets in a great effort in bowling Uckfield out for 188.
Hailsham’s run chase got off to a terrible start with the loss of Scott Pearce, Rahul Chauhan and Robin Sewell early on.
Captain Dean Noakes (16) then joined Paul McDonald (78) at the crease and settled nerves a bit, with a solid partnership.
McDonald was the key to the Hailsham innings though and with everybody else unable to show enough to stay the course, Macco’s return to form was timed perfectly.
Norwood batted well for 18 but when he got out, it was down to number 11 Francis to smash the last two boundaries and claim a nail-biting victory for Hailsham.
