Under 14

Hailsham United Colts 1,

Tonbridge Canons 3

Division B Hailsham had a game plan to keep things tight before exploiting the wind against the tough Tonbridge side. Hailsham’s top scorer Jack Packham had other ideas, firing in a long-range effort inside five minutes. Needing six points to win the league, Tonbridge raised their game, forcing Hailsham’s keeper Ben Andrews to make a number of saves before a cross was carried past him on the stroke of half-time. Even with the wind behind them, Hailsham’s miscommunication saw Tonbridge sneak a second against the run of play. Hailsham’s lack of running off the ball cost them as Packham and Garnet generated chances, only to end in an unfortunate loss in their final home game of the season.

Hailsham United Juniors 4,

Pembury Athletic 1

Hailsham controlled this 60 minute friendly keeping solid at the back and looking dangerous pushing forward. With the threat of skipper Oli Taylor, neat patterns of play produced chances galore for Hailsham, who led at the interval thanks to goals from Adam Pye and Callum Lainchbury. Hailsham continued to dominate with further goals from James Hunt and Oli Taylor. Hailsham began to tire, which allowed Pembury to add a goal to the scoresheet with a terrific late strike from the edge of the box.

Under 15

Pevensey & Westham 3,

Crowborough Athletic 2

After conceding an early goal, Pevensey soon found the opposition coming back from 2–0 down on Sunday. After struggling to gain possession in the first half, Pevensey & Westham fell further behind and looked dead and buried. However, after a tactical switch and a show of great team spirit, two goals from Jacob Merrick and one from Max Parks ensured Pevensey & Westham won the Division 2 title with a game to spare. A double celebration takes place for the squad after their recent victory in the Knockout Cup Final.

Pevensey & Westham JFC are looking to increase their younger age groups in preparation for next season. They are looking for keen children, both boys and girls, who are willing to learn football techniques with qualified coaches. The age groups required are from Reception year, Year two and Year two. They are also looking for girls to play in a girls only team from Year two and Year three. Anyone interested should call Sharon on 01323 763026 or visit www.clubwebsite.co.uk/pevenseywesthamjfc0102

Annual tournament

This year’s tournament is being held at Eastbourne Borough’s Priory Lane Stadium for the very first time. The tournament will be catering for ages Under 7 through to Under 15 over the weekend of May 19 and 20 with the finals to be held on the main Priory Lane pitch. This means the finalists are able to use the players’ dressing rooms and come onto the pitch through the players’ tunnel. They will have the opportunity to meet the Management and Senior players who will be dropping in. There will be something for all the family with fairground rides, a nail bar, jewellery stall and face painting. Clubs from all over Sussex and Kent will be competing and there is still time to enter with the deadline on May 11.
