A galaxy of cricket legends with more than 400 Test caps between them will entertain the crowds at The Saffrons this afternoon (Friday).

The world-famous Lashings XI, featuring household names such as Herschelle Gibbs, Gordon Greenidge, Devon Malcolm and Saqlain Mushtaq, takes on Eastbourne with the match getting underway at 3pm.

Former England Test bowlers Phil DeFreitas, Martin Bicknell and ex-Eastbourne, Sussex and England paceman Ed Giddins are also in the side, which boasts a combined total of 24,981 Test runs and 1,154 Test wickets.

Eastbourne, ninth in the Sussex Premier League, will be skippered by Mark Tomsett.

Eastbourne CC chairman Ian Fletcher-Price told Herald Sport: “The players are very excited about it. They’ve all been vying for a place in the team.

“David Folb, who runs Lashings and is a good friend of mine, has a soft spot for Eastbourne. They have about 40 events a year in their calendar and this is always one of their highlights.

“You don’t get the opportunity to see world-class cricketers close up very often.

“These guys are incredibly approachable so I’d invite everyone to come along and meet their cricket idols.”

The club will be entertaining almost 400 people at a corporate lunch before the match, with the local business community keen to support the fixture once again.

Tickets to the match cost £5 for adults and £3 for children.
