Late-goal drama as ladies exit Sussex Cup

Eastbourne narrowly missed out on progressing in the Sussex Cup last Saturday after a 1-1 draw with local rivals and Division Two side Brighton.

Minty Murray captained the team courageously but they lost out on flicks 4-5 after another outstanding performance against a higher division side.

A goal from Jen Atkins in the dying seconds of the game had secured the draw but it was their rivals who progressed in the end.

Turning their attentions to league duties, Eastbourne faced Lewes and, after two amazing games, they were high in confidence and determination.

However, despite superb efforts from every player and a few chances, Eastbourne failed to score.

The final score was 4 - 0 to Lewes in what is always going to be a tough local derby.

Steph Black and Lisa Black were outstanding and the work rate of midfielders Claire Noble, Sophie Hoskins and Sharon Clay was second to none. We wish them better luck with a home game this Saturday against lower-placed side Yately at 12.00 noon at the Saffrons.
