EASTBOURNE Cricket Club were knocked out of the ECB National Club Championships on Sunday as they were beaten by Preston Nomads first XI by five wickets.

With the round one fixture being played at the Saffrons, the away side won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Despite Eastbourne’s Matthew Green batting impressively, hitting more than half a century, they could not prevent a loss against last year’s Sussex 20/20 cup winners.

David Twine impressed for the home team, making 26 runs and hitting a four and a six before being bowled out by Nomads’ Owen Kernan.

Preston started their batting off well with the impressive Alisdair Wilson making 43 runs and hitting six fours.

Robert Wakeford was another top performer for the away side hitting three fours and making 39 runs not out.

Preston Nomads await the winner of the fixture between Lordswood CC and Bexley CC which will be played on May 13 (Sunday).
