GOLFER Maria Tulley remains on track to qualify for the British Open after a second place finish at the Glenmuir Championships.

Tulley missed out on winning the tournament by a single shot after she finished on plus-three after two rounds.

Indeed had her putt on the 18th hole not lipped out, she would have tied the lead and gone into a play-off with eventual winner Alexandra Keighley of Yorkshire.

Tulley, of Wellshurst Golf and Country Club, tied second position with defending champion Tracy Loveys.

It proved an eventful final round for Tulley who shot five bogeys and six birdies for a score of one-under.

She said, “It was heartbreaking to miss out by one shot but I can lot a positives from the it.

“It’s quite impressive to hit that many birdies in one round. I finished well and birdied 16, 17 and lipped out on 18.

“I was in the clubhouse and hoping the girls behind me would slip-up but one of them didn’t.

“But so far, this season has been my best to date. I have had two second place finishes and a third in the WPGA and now a second at the Glenmuir Championships.

“I am hoping it will put me in a good position to qualify for the British Open. It will be the biggest competition of the year so far, so fingers crossed.”

The British Open will be played at Berkshire Golf Club on August 27.
