Luck is with the Irish at Downs All Nations Cup

The Downs All Nations Cup got under way on Saturday with over 50 gents taking part in the inaugural event.

Starting off both tees, teams from England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and the Rest of the World vied for a year’s worth of bragging rights.

Six of the best scores from each team contributed to the teams score which in the end, on a bright but cool day, had some struggling and others excelling with the course there for the taking. The greens played fantastically well, a great reward for the summer efforts.

Just one point separated first from second with Team Ireland, led by Mick Browne (229points), just pipping Team England who were skippered by Ray Crane (228 points).

Ian Moon’s Wales came third on 203 points, With the Rest of the World, led by Tim Lorence (197 pts), fourth. They were followed by England B (184 pts) and the wooden spoon went to Team Scotland led by John Smart (180 pts)
