Golf round-up

DISABLED GOLF: Young, disabled golfers are being given the chance to compete in the country’s most inclusive golf event when it comes to East Sussex next month.

There are still places left in the yourgolftravel.com Junior Disabled British Open tournament, which takes place at East Sussex National from August, 24-25.

The event is a rare opportunity for disabled golfers to compete against each other and accepts players between the ages of 12 and 18 inclusive.

Entry forms may be downloaded from www.disabledbritishopen.org or by calling 01825 880191.

WILLINGDON GOLF CLUB: Tony Schartenberg recorded an exceptional gross 74 to take the Frank Ward Cup as Willingdon held its Handicap Club Championship on Sunday.

Hitting off a net 58, Tony finished ahead of Mark Downey in second place with a gross 78 from net 64, and Alan Moore in third with a gross 76, net 66.

The David Cook Trophy for handicap players from 19-28 was won by Andy Private with a gross 90, net 69.

Kevin Mann earned second place with a gross 90 from net 71, ahead of Jamie White in third spot with a score of gross 96, net 72.

EASTBOURNE PARK GOLF CLUB: The seniors enjoyed a friendly win over Boars Head Golf Club last Tuesday.

The victory by 3.5 to 2.5 was another pleasing result for acting captain Chris Mottershead, who won his game with Steve Lynch 4 and 3.

Jim Cumming and Ralph Richardson lost 2 and 3 but Tony Carter and Dave Gamble won 3 and 1 in a touch-and-go game to restore Eastbourne’s lead.

George Schneider and Brain Thompson finished all square and Den Green and Len Blackman tied up proceedings with a 7 and 6 win.

Everybody enjoyed yet another superb lunch provided by Sharon and Carol.
