Downs in top form to advance in County Exclusive

Eastbourne Downs took on Rustington Golf Club at the Downs in this year’s Sussex County Exclusive Golf competition.

In great conditions the four pairs from the Downs secured a very credible 3.5 points to Rustington’s 0.5 points to book their place into the next round.

Downs pairs: Dave Whatley and Simon Fitzpatrick (1up), Ray Crane and John Boniface (8up), Chris Dalton and Dave Painter (2up) and finally Gareth Dell and Wayne Mitchell (A/S). Team Captain Ray Crane was proud of the performance and is looking forward to the next round at Hassocks GC

Gildredge Manor: The early players took full advantage of the calm conditions on Sunday as they competed for the top eight places to compete in the Gildredge Manor knockout stages.

An incredible three under gross from the talented Shaun Harrisson (5) earned him an expected unassailable lead of plus 7. However young George Wooller (14) who struck some fine shots managed to join him in the lead with another plus 7, narrowly missing out on countback. Fine golf from both players. Other players joining them in the finals: Dave Button, Paul Staples, Young Jin Lee, Nigel Deacon – all on plus 4, Noel Traynor, Steve Redfern - all on plus 3.
