Bobby Zamora netted a late winner for the second successive game to fire Brighton & Hove Albion to a 2-1 win at home to Bristol City last night.
Zamora came off the bench to volley home the winner eight minutes from time, after netting a last-minute winner at Leeds on Saturday.
The victory kept the unbeaten Seagulls four points clear at the top of the Championship, ahead of Birmingham who moved up to second, but they are now six points ahead of third-placed Reading.
Derrick Williams fired Bristol City into a 17th-minute lead but Albion should have been level at half-time.
Sam Baldock was denied by City keeper Frank Fielding, before Luke Ayling cleared off the line after Baldock had lifted the ball over Fielding from close range. Tomer Hemed was then denied by Fielding as the first half drew to a close.
Albion levelled on 53 minutes when Baldock touched home Bruno’s low cross, before the visitors’ Luke Freeman was booked for diving after a challenge by Albion’s Uwe Hunemeier in the penalty area.
Brighton keeper David Stockdale made two excellent saves to deny Jonathan Kodija, before Zamora volleyed home after Dale Stephens’ shot was blocked to spark scences of wild celebration.
It was Zamora’s first goal at The Amex, after he returned to Brighton after a 12-year absence in the summer.
Speaking to www.seagulls.co.uk, Zamora said: “It’s nice to score and get the three points once again. I’m almost speechless to be honest. To score two in two when coming on as a sub is special and it’s Brighton!
“Obviously a lot like Saturday’s match, it’s great to be scoring goals for Brighton again. The club means so much to me and it was great to get the winning goal again.
“It’s nice to get one away and one at home, as all the boxes are ticked and our unbeaten record continues.
“It was a reaction finish; when you do shooting practice for so many years it becomes second nature or instinct; you just try to hit the target.
“I didn’t really try to place it or anything like that, from where I was looking there was not much space between the defenders or the posts, so I had a bit of luck.”
