It’s proved quite a week for all concerned with Eastbourne Town FC.

A nerve shredding 5-4 victory at title-rivals Horsham was swiftly followed by a hard fought 3-2 triumph in Arundel on Tuesday.

The midweek win in Arundel took on greater significance as Horsham lost 1-0 at Broadbridge Heath.

It leaves Town top of the Southern Combination Premier League table On 71 points, one point and a game in hand ahead of Horsham who dropped back to second place.

Third placed Lancing are nine points off the pace with Horsham YMCA, who are fourth, 10 points adrift.

Town have 10 games left to play this season and tomorrow (Saturday, 3pm) they welcome midtable Worthing United to the Saffrons while Horsham are in action at Chichester City. Town are also at home on Tuesday night against Hassocks.

Town manager John Lambert said, “Wow, what a week. It has been incredibly tough but we have come out the other end in good shape. We are top of the table, a game in hand with 10 to play. Obviously that’s pleasing but nothing is won yet, not a thing!

“I said before the Horsham game that it’s massive but nothing will be won lost on that one game.

“We have 10 more cup finals to play. Everyone is out to knock us off our perch and everyone is out to get us.

“Every game from now on will be an absolute battle and we have to be ready for that.”

At Horsham, Town battled back from 3-1 down with the winner eventually arriving in the 98th minute. At Arundel they displayed their title credentials as they twice came back from a goal down to triumph 3-2.

A coach load of supporters travelled to Horsham and helped their team to victory and they are expected to be in full voice once again at the Saffrons tomorrow.

Lambert added, “They have been our 12th man they are absolutely magnificent. It’s quite unusual to get this kind of following in the County League but they have joined us for the journey and I just want to go on record and thank them from me and from all the players for their support.”
