Eastbourne United warmed-up for their Bank Holiday Monday local derby against Hailsham Town with a comprehensive 7-1 victory against Crawley Down Gatwick.

Simon Rowland’s unbeaten men top the County League division one table having won their first three league fixtures.

Paul Rodgers opened the scoring for United at the Oval on Saturday with a goal on 23 minutes.

Player coach Wes Tate then took centre stage as he bagged a clinical hat-trick. The first two arrived just before halftime with the third coming on 67 minutes.

Ciaran Steers pulled one back but two from Jason Taylor and a late goal from Jonathon Melia completed the scoring.
