Eastbourne United manager Simon Rowland is targeting a top six finish in County Division One this season (Writes Adam Skinner)
Last season’s Division Two champions and FA Vase semi-finalsists host Horsham YMCA in the season’s opener on Saturday.
Horsham finished fourth in Division One last season and while Rowland admits winning will be difficult, he is happy at how his squad has come together following a difficult summer break.
This week he added former Hastings United winger Bailo Camara to his ranks, along with defender Mike Gardner and forward Paul Rogers.
“Our aim of the top six is looking far more realistic now, given the strength of the squad” Rowland said
“ We’ve been quite late getting our squad together and Saturday could be a bit soon for us, we are probably a couple of weeks behind everybody else.
“Horsham are a strong side, they will be in the top three or four again. It’s not an ideal start for us but we’ve got talented players and we could nick a result.”
United concluded their pre-season with a 6-2 win at Mile Oak on Tuesday night. Rowland also revealed he expects more signings in the coming weeks.
