Merstham test at Saffrons for Town after FA Cup blow

Eastbourne Town boss Danny Bloor will hope to see a positive reaction from his players tonight (Wednesday) after their FA Cup disappointment at Slough on Sunday.

Merstham visit the Saffrons on Wednesday (kick-off 7.45pm) as Bloor’s side look to kick-start their season.

After a promising start, Town’s form has dipped slightly in recent weeks. They sit 12th in the Ryman League division one South with five points from their opening five matches.

Merstham have an almost identical record to Town. They have also won once, drawn twice and lost twice. Bloor’s men sit one place above them with superior goal difference.

Town are also expected to announce their new assistant manager this week following Danny Simmonds decision to quit the Saffron’s dugout and join County League two outfit Eastbourne United to resume his playing career.

Simmonds, 37, made his United debut and played the full 90 minutes during their 4-2 defeat at Loxwood.

The Former Brighton player will make his Oval debut when they host division two leaders Little Common under the lights on Friday night (kick-off 7.45pm).
