HAILSHAM Town will secure promotion to Sussex County Division One if they avoid defeat to Oakwood at The Beaconsfield on Saturday.
Following Tuesday night’s emphatic 4-1 victory away at Bexhill United, Town remain second in Division Two and sit 15 points ahead of fourth placed Littlehampton Town, having played two fixtures less and boasting a superior goal difference.
Hailsham boss Kenny McCreadie said,
“To have a chance of securing promotion with seven games left is not bad and I have always said I have a first division team here. We weren’t great during the first half on Tuesday night but man for man in the second half we absolutely bossed it and that performance was exactly why we are second in the league,”
The visit of lowly Oakwood hands Town the chance to extend their great run of form and secure a third win in only eight days.
Mark Gilbert’s men have been poor of late and are without a win in the league since they won away at Steyning Town on January 28.
“We drew in the league earlier in the season against Oakwood and then beat them in the cup. I’ve got mostly everyone available to me and only Alex Atrill and Stephen Early will be missing for the game this weekend,” McCreadie added.
Winger Atrill remains sidelined with the ligament damage he sustained in Hailsham’s 3-1 win over fellow promotion hopefuls Dorking Wanderers in January.
