Eastbourne Town suffered late heartbreak at the Saffrons on Wednesday night as Horsham scored two goals in the last eight minutes.
It looked as though Town had done enough to deserve a point but late goals from former Crawley player Jamie Cade and Gary Charman ensured the visitors left the Saffrons with all three points.
Town started brightly with recent signing Gregg Berry making his first start for Town.
He caused the Horsham defence a number of early problems and found himself crudely brought down by Lewis Hamiltion who was shown a yellow card by referee Matt Goldsmith.
Minutes later Berry was through again, this time brought down by Ryan Marriott who was lucky only to see yellow.
As the half moved on Horsham came back into the match with lively winger Tony Nwachukwu setting up Cade.
His shot was well saved by Joe Taylor in the Town goal.
Former Town players Ashley Robinson and Bruno Pacheco in the Horsham midfield set up Cade once again but Taylor was equal to everything that the visitors threw at him with a couple of saves from Robinson then Nwachukwu before also denying Pacheco.
After the interval Horsham had decent shout for a penalty for handball but the officials waved away frantic appeals.
The visitors were by now well on top. Defenders Ross Sutton and Tom Gilbert were protecting Taylor who continued to thwart the Horsham attackers.
The highlight of the young goalkeeper’s night was a brilliant save from Cade as he held on to a shot from point blank range when it looked certain the visitors would take the lead.
As the game entered the last 10 minutes Horsham finally got their breakthrough as Cade beat several defenders before slotting past Taylor.
Then eight minutes later a Nwachukwu cross was mt by the head of Charman as Horsham left the Saffrons with the three points.
