Eastbourne Town boss John Lambert is refusing to give up on promotion ahead of his side’s mouth-watering clash with Arundel tomorrow.
Despite being nine points off the promotion places, Lambert says his side can win every game from now until the end of the season to secure a place back in the Ryman South.
And they might just have neighbours Eastbourne United to thank for it as they saw off fellow promotion hopefuls Pagham at the Oval on Tuesday night.
Town’s crunch clash with Littlehampton Town fell foul to the weather but he says they have enough to come through a difficult spell whihc has seen them lose their last two league games.
“We will never give up,” Lambert said.
“We are relying on other teams slipping up and they don’t look like doing so at the moment but you never know.”
Tomorrow’s fixture is almost too difficult to call as both sides have already met three times this season.
Town triumphed in the reverse fixture at Arundel in Sussex Division One before a convincing 4-0 loss in the Peter Bentley Cup.
They got revenge in the semi-final of the SCFA Charity Cup with a dramatic penalty shootout win to book a place in the final and Lambert thinks tomorrow’s fixture cold be just as close.
“At the moment we can’t let in the first goal,” he added.
“When we do our heads go down and I think other teams can sense that.
“It’s strange because we have enough quality to win this league. It’s a mental thing, sometimes the players think the game is going to be easier than it actually is..
“Nobody is a gimme in this league, we have to work hard to win every game. Sometimes I just don’t know what I’m going to get from the players on match day.”
Town could close the gap on third-placed Pagham to just a point with a win. Kick off is 3pm at the Saffrons.
