Eastbourne Town manager John Lambert says January could define his side’s season ahead of the first game of the year tomorrow (Saturday).

Town host local rivals Ringmer before going to St Francis Rangers the following week, while Horsham YMCA lie in wait ahead of the crunch clash with title rivals Littlehampton Town.

Foul weather has put paid to a spate of games for Town and Lambert’s side have lost ground in the table as a result.

They have gone from top to fourth without playing a game but this month could go some way to determining their fate come the end of the season.

“It could be our biggest month but it could be a washout,” Lambert said.

“You just never know with our weather. It’s actually not that bad being under the radar because you’re not up at the top to be shot at.

“I’m sure there will be lots of twists and turns before now and the end of the season.”

Town are currently five points off top spot but have three games in hand. Littlehampton, meanwhile, are third, on the same number of points having played the same number of games.

Both sides have identical goal differences but Littlehampton edge it on goals scored, making the clash between the two on January 20, that more important.

Lambert, however, is keen to concentrate on the immediate task of Ringmer. Ringmer are third from bottom but Lambert is refusing to take a side who have had some strange results this season for granted.

“I’m really not sure what to expect,” he added. “They’ve had some mixed results. They’ve had some poor ones and some games where I’ve thought, ‘how have they won that one?’”

Kick off is 3pm at the Saffrons.
